Power words and phrases are powerful marketing words. They can drive someone to click, show emotion, and even buy a product. These words can interact and work well in almost any business situation.

  • Power words for copywriting – If you are an internet marketer, then you are well versed in the power of words to sell a lot of product in a short period of time.
  • Power words for customer services – Words can calm down a situation or redirect someone’s focus on what you want them to address and express.

They are these fantastic, yet simple one to two-word phrases that stop the scroll, invoke an emotion, or to generate a click. When done right, a good content writer can drive a lot of free traffic to their content. Once that reader is engage in your content, then it comes down to converting them into a sale or to take action on your content.

How about the phrase “Secret or Confidential.” It invokes curiosity, a sense of danger, content that may help you get the edge on someone, something exclusive, or something uninhibited. All those feelings lead to a behavior emotion of excitement, nervousness, eroticism, and more. Those feelings and behaviors require a closure. You have to do something to release that built up energy.

99% of the time, all it takes is a simple click of your mouse to release yourself into the title’s content. Once that delicious bait has been taken, then it is up to the content writer to make good on the answer to the question, the instruction to the unknown, the cure to the issue, and so forth. If you can take your reader from power word hook into engaging content that gives the reader exactly what they need, then more than not, you will get that reader to make a choice to buy or to follow your lead.

These words are so powerful that the same article will get double or triple the traffic. For example, an article written with this title, “5 Secret Bucket List Vacation Getaways,” will get triple or quadruple the clicks versus “5 Places to go on Your Next Vacation.” The words should invoke a visual image in a person’s head or an emotion. The word or words should get a person to pause or even stop what they are doing to read your article.

They invoke curiosity, fear, worry, and even sadness. News articles are great with titles. Titles like “The Next World War Has Started” will get the click only to find out it is just a war of words between two rival countries. You want to invoke the right feelings or imagery depending on the content.Where a news article content will be a let down, the reader will still come back because it is news and news always exciting because it is never good.

For you readers, you can’t let them down, you need to deliver on the solution. It is also OK to add more power words in the content of your article or sales letter to drive your reader forward. Normally you do this in heavy, bold title sections, or call outs. to attract the readers attention and pull them deeper into the article.

Words have a lot of power and can also drive away readers. For instance a phrase like this, “Don’t Read This” will invoke fear. Only the most bold reader will click to open up the content. Many will not and move on to other content. Yet, something like, “Don’t Read This Unless You Want to Make $20,000 in Crypto Within the Next 5 Days!” will have a completely different response.

What is the Exception to the Rule?

There are times when it does not matter what is in your title, readers will click.

  • When it has to do with really bad things like death, disasters, pandemics. When COVID hit, all you needed to see in the title was COVID updates or the word news and you were clicking on it. Obituaries are the same. Just a person’s name gets the click and disasters attract a lot of readers without much effort.
  • Famous people, influencers, rock stars, movie stars, and other large worldwide personalities. When you have a list of 203K or millions, it does not matter what you write about. When you send it to your list, you get readers and automatic traffic. This intern warms up the internet algorithms and Google, Bing and others show your content without much effort from you.
  • Regional events, like presidential elections, wars, etc. always get the click regardless of the title. As they say for news agencies, and the tabloids, bad news is great news and big business.
