To do this, you can use free or paid tools to figure out what topics people are searching for or interested in. You want to provide that information to solve their problems or teach them something they are interested in learning.

A big misconception is you need to be on page 1 of Google for your article to drive traffic. This is a myth, and many successful articles are not on page 1. They may show up there over time, but the majority of their traffic initially comes from other domains linking to it. If you are lucky, you will get a well-read online magazine to link and highlight your article. It happens a lot.

Also, do not be discouraged if your article starts generating a lot of traffic and then declines for no reason. Your keyword ranking will rise and dip. The amount of traffic you receive will never be consistent. A lot of times, a domain that was driving a lot of traffic to your site stopped. If a big name domain links to you, your article will only be on their front page or in a dominant area for a few days to a few weeks. It does not make sense to spend effort on writing a 2000-word article if no one will benefit from all you wrote. It could be an excellent article and helpful to someone, but you need more than a few people reading your article for it to generate any significant traffic or sales.

Content Keyword Research

Incorporate Keyword Research with four or more keywords in your title and content. The days of ranking for two or three keyword phrases died many years ago. Forget about that strategy. Go long. The longer, the better. When the keyword is a very long tail keyword, it will be specific and attract only the reader who is interested in your product or service. 

For instance, if you are selling fishing lures. The keyword “fishing lures” has over 75,000,000 million returns on Google. Imagine trying to rank for something like this. Without a large team of SEO experts and content writers, it would be virtually impossible. Yet if you go after the keyword “fishing lures for the weekend fisherman” or “fishing lures for the San Diego fisherman.” Now you are getting more specific on the kind of person you want reading your article. The keyword phrase fishing lures is still in the title, but a location and a role support it. 

The first keyword validates fishing lures only for someone who does not fish often and only on the weekend. And the second keyword is even more specific, as it states a city and the role of who would use the fishing lure. You can do this for any product. Let’s say I am trying to give away a PDF on weight loss. I would go super long with a keyword like this. I would make it extremely specific “free weight loss PDF for women 50 plus.” Again you see the word weight loss in the keyword, but I am only targeting women that are 50 years old or more. 

Once your article has been indexed, you can start to measure how well your article ranks and how much traffic it generates. 

CONTENT LENGTH:

How many words should you use in your article, and does it matter? The short answer is you should write no less than 2000 words in your article. There are a few reasons for this. If you want to rank or beat your competition, you must go the extra mile. This means doing more than the average website owner. The content writing traffic secrets around content length is powerful. Make sure you put this one into use right away. You will notice a change in your traffic in a short time.

You first want to conduct a general search through Google on the topic you want to write about. The first page of Google will dictate the length of your article. If you see the first page filled with articles that are 500 words or less, you can be sure to have a good chance of ranking if your article is 1000 words or more. Almost every niche that sells a product or service will require much more than a 1000-word article to rank or draw traffic.

Once your research is complete, you always want to write more than your competition. If the competition is dictating 1500 words, shoot for 2500 – 3000 words. Don’t get hung up on a ranking. Remember, you are here to provide a solution to your reader’s problem. Stay focused on that.

This is my opinion, but I find it hard to solve anything with an article of 1000 words or less. Most of the time, I can write upwards of 3000 words and sometimes 5000 words. I can get a lot of targeted readers to my articles this way. Some of my top articles are well above 3000 words. And, YES! I do sell products and services from these articles. The method works, and I get conversions from the articles.

The rule of thumb is to pick a target for the article’s length, but always be sure to provide the answer to what is stated in your title. Google and your Reader will expect this. When you focus on this, the results are amazing.

FORMATTING:

Do you need to format your sentences and paragraphs? As I write this article today, the answer is no. Google will not ding you for complex grammar mistakes or formatting. But this does not mean the algorithm will not do this six months from now. I know that the Google algorithm is very close to a reading level equivalent to a human. And when this happens, grammar, sentence, paragraph formatting, and structure will be fair game to Google. A lot of badly written articles will be impacted.

A well-formatted article with correct spelling and grammar will outrank a similar article without it. If you are not great at grammar, structure, and formatting, I highly suggest getting Grammarly to help you with this. It is a lifesaver for me. I never write without it. They want to know how to prepare it method you are discussing, how to cast, or what fishing line weight they should use for the best outcome.

They want to know your methods of success for catching lots of fish. Once you do all that and get them excited about what kind of day they can have using your methods, you finish the article by selling a specific product or service to help with that. Hopefully, you truly used the product and service and spoke from experience.

LINKS:

Every article needs links. It is great for internal SEO. Google can only find your content if you link to other pages. An excellent way to look at this is through the concept of pillars. If you create a building with four pillars, such as the one shown in Caption 1, you can see four strong pillars holding a structure on top. The top represents your homepage, the pillars are your main articles, and the dirt around the pillars keeps the pillars upright and sturdy. The dirt represents the supporting articles. When you write your main pillar articles, you want to ensure all pillar articles link to each other and the homepage. The supporting article for each pillar only links to the pillar they are supporting.

HOW TO EASILY WRITE TWO THOUSAND OR MORE WORDS IN AN ARTICLE:

You may think it is impossible to write that much. It is hard, and how can anyone think of enough content to make up a 2000-word article? Well, it is not that hard at all, and after doing it a couple of times, you will find that you can put together 2000 to a 3000-word article in less than 30 minutes.

This is how I do it. After I do my keyword research, I write down ten or so areas I want to write about. If your article is shorter, you need fewer areas, and if you are writing more than 2000 words, you will need more sections of interest to write about. Let’s say we are going to write a 2000-word article. I will then come up with ten areas or sections that I want to write about. Each section is a self-contained area of information for your reader. The section’s title needs to be specific, and you can only write about that precise topic. 

For example, suppose I properly use all the recommended content writing traffic secrets. In that case, my first section is about Oregon fish habits. That section needs to be 100% focused on the habits of Oregon fish and nothing more. Once you come up with ten sections, now you need to write no less than 250 words for each section. When you are done, you will have a 2000-word article. It is much easier to write one section of 250 words than to think about writing 2000 words. It tricks your brain into thinking it is an easier task. When you do this, writing becomes more enjoyable. When your brain is less stressed, creativity flows.
